Okay so.. I worked longer and harder on that blue one and I think I have a slightly nicer version. Sharpened up the background some, added some textures, cleaned up the details.. darkened the shadows. I think overall it looks quite nice.
So here’s the blue one. And then.. I’ve done more work on the caged stumples whom I am planning upon giving a better name since.. stumples doesn’t really suit him..
So I spent part of the morning in a lab, throwing some color on this. Of course, I’ve lost my pencil work for the most part, but I’m in love with the colors on this. I think I might clean it up some more and refine some of the background elements so it’s at least portfolio worthy. I think it would be valuable to have a human or two in there with the beasties.
So, I got my portfolio case yesterday. Huzzah! It’s perfect. Beautiful. Totally worth the money. However, my business cards also came and unfortunately they were printed incorrectly so I had to deal with customer service and try to find a way to get it fixed. Now I have a box of 100 I can’t use. The color is great though. I should have a reprint sometime next week. In other news…
I was feeling bummed and watching cartoons at work last night and since I haven’t been drawing anything but humanoid monsters and the like, I thought I’d sketch out a person. So I did some pencils of Caelan. They need a tiny bit more cleaning and I’ll probably throw em into Photoshop today and see if I can’t make something acceptable. The background still eludes me for this one but I’ll figure out something nice and vague later. I like the angular style I managed here. The hands came out great, though you can see where I drew one partly through the figure in the initial stages. Gotta clean that up too.
That girl has got some attitude for sure. Definitely am enjoying the way it came out.
Also, today is our ONE day off for Spring Break. And Josh has to work. Very sad. I offered him part of my website to put his work up, but he said no.. not surprising really.. I don’t think I’d want to share a website either. But the offer still stands.
Bought a new pencil case yesterday also.. I’m not sure what happened to the old one but I keep losing all of my pencils. It’s ridiculously frustrating and it gets to be a tad expensive after a while.
No word yet on that drawing that went missing. I’m pretty certain someone snatched it from me when I wasn’t looking at my other job. I’m not very thrilled. The pencils were quite nice.. but no point dwelling upon it. I’m sure I’ll have bigger and better work soon. Hell even this one here is an improvement. It’s nice to see everything falling into place.
Well enough about that, it’s time for breakfast and a trip up to campus to make use of the Cintiqs.
So, the site is up now.. obviously… and it’s looking pretty good I think. Now I just have to spend the next five weeks finishing up and getting portfolio work photographed and uploaded. Definitely not bad for my first time working with Flash.
The letterhead is printed up and ready to go, and now I just need to research my list of 20 places to send my resume and info to and hope that by some miracle I get a bite. Advertising oneself can be difficult methinks. I’ll probably have some sketches up sometime this week of some little ideas I’ve been tossing around. I’m going to attempt to get two pieces finished for the next project instead of just one. More monstrous things I think.
I barely slept. 4 hours.. tops. Nightmares coupled with stomach pain and restlessness contributed to a shitty night. Tonight is the opening of the Student show, I’ve got the night off from work, so I guess I’m gonna go. I hope Josh wins something. Hell if I win something it’d be killer for my resume.

It’s still pretty exciting. Let’s see.. my letterhead is designed.. I asked for the help of a few GD majors at school and they took a look.. I made some changes to the type but it’s looking good. Web class in an hour, so I’ll at least be getting more work done on the site. Flash is such a bitch. I sketched some lab guy with gloves and two halves of saw-scissors in his hands. I’ll post him later when I have some time.
Now, it is time for breakfast.
Registered my domain and got web hosting. Now I just need to finish my website.. also here is the design for the grad show stickers I was talking about..
And also I’ve finished up my business card design thanks to some help from Grant.
It’s a little bit pricier but I’m going full color front and back. I just like the look of it better like this..
In other news, Today was Josh’s birthday. Huzzah. He’s 22 and we’re heading out for dinner on Friday night with the gang. That should prove fun and entertaining. Also I got out of class early and bought some cream colored paper for my letterhead. I’m trying to keep the style similar to my business cards, but I want the drawings to have more of a.. work in progress feel. Pencil sketches printed onto the paper like a watermark. I thought it would look nice. I’ve got some time to figure it out though, first I want to make sure my business card designs match the color of the paper and then I have to send that job off to the printer. I really hope I get that vacation pay from work tomorrow or else I’m so fucked with funds. This is costing me a pretty good amount to put together, certainly more than I can afford with my wages. Uck. And apparently tax returns are coming late this year, so I may be struggling through April as well. Here’s to hoping everything goes okay.
Well, in an effort to get things rolling with the webdesign, I thought I could at least get my blog up and running. The main site is still in the works but I should get all the coding done within the next few weeks, definitely before the grad show at the end of April. This blog will be where I post some of my projects I’m currently working on, including developmental stages and napkin drawings. As far as things lately..
I ordered 250 stickers off of www.stickerguy.com, I don’t have the design saved as a .jpeg yet but when I get around to it, I’ll post it here.
Had a critique this morning on Junker, my newest illustration for Grad Portfolio, it went swimmingly. Working on business card designs and finding a suitable portfolio case to display my work. Then I have to go through the hell of getting plexi for the show and hoping that all of my work prints on time.
In other news, here are some really lame in progress bits of my new guy, Stumples. 
So stage one is pretty basic, and moving on I’m adding more depth and wotnot, and of course at the request of John M., more maggots.. “as if he were choking on them”. Gorgeous.
I want to finish him up and get to work on a revision of the Caterbeast, who is also featured on my stickers.
So much to do so little time to do it, guess I’ll just relax during the rest of my ridiculous shift at the campus bookstore and try to sort out how I’m going to afford all of this printing.
